Red Sift is officially a Carbon Positive organization

Since partnering with Trace in 2022, we’ve assessed our impact on the environment by tracking the level of CO2 emissions we generate through our staff, energy use, travel, waste management and the suppliers we work with. As a result of our efforts, we’re delighted to announce that Red Sift has become a Carbon Positive company, meaning we offset at least 100% of our emissions.

Over the last 12 months, Red Sift have offset 935 Tonnes of CO2 (equivalent to 15,801 Shipping containers full of pollution!), by planting 5,330 trees across the world. Further to this, Red Sift have supported several environmental initiatives across the globe that aim to reduce the impact of CO2 on the natural world.

Generating clean wind energy, India

The Mytrah project uses 156 wind generators with a capacity of 233MV to generate clean energy for the communities of India. The energy generated from this project supplies the region and feeds into the Southern Grid.

The project reduces natural dependency on finite fossil fuels providing a sustainable, long term, source of energy. The project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 479,448 CO2e per year.

Katingan Peatlands Conservation, Indonesia

This project covers an area of approximately 150,000 hectares of peat swamp and lies east of the Sebangu National Park in the Katingan and Kotawaringin Timur districts of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The area is home to the critically endangered Sunda Pangolin and White-Shouldered Ibis as well as many other endangered species including up to 10% of the world’s Bornean Orangutan population.

The Katingan Project is the world’s largest emission reduction forest project, preventing the release of 7.5 million tonnes of CO2 on average annually – the equivalent of removing 2 million cars off the road each year!

Coorong Lakes Biodiversity Conservation, Australia

This project is located on 200 hectares of landscape in Meningie, South Australia and is supplied with native plants from the local nursery at Raukkan, a self-governed Aboriginal community 30 km northwest of the site. Home to the short-beaked echidna, purple-gaped honeyeater and elegant parrot who all live amongst this coastal shrubland and saline swampland ecosystem, it is a rare pocket of intact native vegetation in a region now dominated by farmlands. Many Raukkan community members are also employed for onsite work and delivering activities such as vegetation monitoring, mapping and fencing with a focus on ensuring these communities can continue to preserve and protect this culturally important pocket of land.

The Coorong Lakes project protects and restores the native landscape of the South Australian Coorong region, in partnership with the traditional owners, to produce biodiversity credits.

We’re delighted to work with Trace to help offset any environmental impact Red Sift has as we scale our teams and operations. With Trace we’ll have the information we need to be thoughtful about our choices in how and when we travel, how we build our engineering infrastructure and the suppliers we work with. Being able to say we’re on our way to being Carbon Neutral is something we’re immensely proud of.
